9: Meeting GrassRoots Adviser Mrs Josephine Teo

Last night (Sun 11 Mar 2012), a few of us Concerned Residents of Thomson Garden attended the Residents' Get-Together @ Jalan Pintau Park. The Guest-of-Honour @ this event was Minister of State for Finance & Transport - our GrassRoots Adviser.
One of the questions we asked her was: The Privatisation Committee of Shunfu Ville mentioned in their website on 21 Jan 2011 that our MP Hri Kumar had raised the question of a land swap for the Walkway and had requested HDB for a feasibility study on this proposal. What was the result of this proposal?
Her answer was that the HDB had clarified that they do not usually support this kind of arrangement.

  1. Well, if Shunfu Ville finally got their way to build a fence round their estate, blocking off Thomson Garden from egress @ the Walkway, what happens when there's a fire at Jalan Isnin. Won't the residents at the end of Jalan Isnin be trapped, there being no fire escape?

  2. When HDB sold the HUDC, is the carpark and the footpath part of the HUDC sold? If not, the footpath should be excluded in the privatization of Shufu Ville Estate without the need for any land swap.

  3. The privatization of Shunfu HUDC was, in essence, the sale of state land to the residents. The legal process of converting their leases to strata title ends with a new state lease upon the subdivision of land being completed. From a legal perspective, it's technically a fait accompli.
