17: A monkey in our estate

A monkey was spotted foraging for food at Jalan Minggu this morning. Then just before 4pm today (Tue 6 Nov), the monkey was seen perching on a gate in Jalan Isnin. It jumped up the car porch roof and scampered away. The resident Albert Ong made a call to the Thomson Neighbourhood Police Post and the duty officer said that he would contact NEA for remedial action.

The monkey must have strayed from the nearby MacRitchie Reservoir where monkeys congregate near the Kayaking area.

9: Meeting GrassRoots Adviser Mrs Josephine Teo

Last night (Sun 11 Mar 2012), a few of us Concerned Residents of Thomson Garden attended the Residents' Get-Together @ Jalan Pintau Park. The Guest-of-Honour @ this event was Minister of State for Finance & Transport - our GrassRoots Adviser.
One of the questions we asked her was: The Privatisation Committee of Shunfu Ville mentioned in their website on 21 Jan 2011 that our MP Hri Kumar had raised the question of a land swap for the Walkway and had requested HDB for a feasibility study on this proposal. What was the result of this proposal?
Her answer was that the HDB had clarified that they do not usually support this kind of arrangement.

8: Fencing @ Shunfu Ville

The proposed fencing at Shunfu Ville will reduce the number of parking lots available to residents around it. Presently, the HUDC carpark is available for coupon parking, but this parking facility will be lost once their fences go up.

5: That Circular from Chairman, TGNC

The following letter served to dash the hopes of the concerned residents who view it as a short-term solution & temporary reprieve to allow Shunfu Ville to do what they want, i.e. to complete their privatisation process and sell their properties enbloc. The new developer may then decide to disallow the use of the Walkway. What then?

4: Will Grass Roots Adviser be able to help?

A dialogue session with Thomson Garden residents and Grass Roots Adviser Mrs Josephine Teo @ Thomson Community Club on 19 Nov 2011 raised some hope for an amicable solution to the problem of continued use of the Walkway.

1: Saving the Walkway

The photos show the Walkway from the end of Jalan Isnin leading down to Shunfu Road.
The Walkway has been in existence for more than 20 years, beginning from a footpath down the slope, and then improved upon over the years, culminating in this present state of convenience to a host of Thomson Garden residents:
1: Kindergarten children being led down the Walkway by their mothers and maids to a PA Community   Kindergarten below @ Shunfu Precinct,
2: Working adults use it to go to the nearby Marymount Station of the MRT Circular Line,
3: Housewives use it to go to Shunfu Mart to buy food to cook for their families,
4: The elderly use it to access the shuttle bus service below to connect with other transport services to AMK Polyclinic
5:  Children & young adults use it to go to Thomson CC for Karate lessons, & other community activities.

But now it is in danger of being lost as Shunfu Ville next door is going on an enbloc sale and potentially seeking to annex/demolish  it to enhance their land development.

Surely, after a long history of use, even before Shunfu Ville was built, the residents of Thomson Garden have a moral right to continue using it.

The question now is: Who can help to create a win-win solution to both parties?
